The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH-Sarasota) provides:

  • Traditional public health services like disease control, immunizations, birth and death certificates, environmental health services, and more

  • Affordable health care including primary and preventive care for adults and children, dental care, specialty and follow-up care, pharmacy, and more

  • Community programs that promote healthy living throughout the county


DOH-Sarasota boasts modern facilities at convenient locations throughout the county, including Health In Motion, its mobile medical unit.  Their team includes board-certified physicians, ARNPs, nurses, dentists, public health professionals, dedicated support staff, and more.

DOH-Sarasota works to make sure its services are available to as many people as possible.  The cost of a service depends on your ability to pay. 

HEALTH CARE (for residents age 0-54)

DOH-Sarasota provides primary health care, including preventive care, sick care, specialty and follow-up care, laboratory services, health education, and much more.

Adult Health


Non-emergency medical care including:

  • Primary sick and well care
  • Physicals and other preventive care
  • Immunizations
  • HIV, STD, cancer, refugee health, and other screenings
  • Mental and behavioral health care
  • Family planning
  • Dental care (limited)

Women’s Health


  • Obstetrics (prenatal and post-partum care)
  • Gynecology (women's reproductive health)
  • Family planning and birth control
  • Mammogram and breast health education

Children’s Health


  • Pediatric care for children from birth through age 17
  • Sick and well care
  • Dental care (comprehensive)





Environmental Health


Environmental Health services are available including indoor air quality checks, mosquito management, radon testing, well water testing, and much more.

Healthy Start Program


Healthy Start is a program that screens pregnant women and newborn babies to identify risk factors for low birth weight and infant mortality. Healthy Start is free and available to everyone regardless of income. A team of nurses, social workers, and peer counselors assist families in determining their needs and provide counseling, parenting support, childbirth and breastfeeding education, and smoking cessation services. Classes are in English and Spanish.

HIV/AIDS Services


DOH-Sarasota offers comprehensive services and care for people living with HIV/AIDS. 



DOH-Sarasota offers immunizations for the whole family, including childhood immunizations required for school enrollment, immunizations for adults and college students, and travel immunizations for those visiting foreign countries.


Flu, Shingles, and Pneumonia vaccines are all available.

Tobacco Prevention


Get help quitting smoking and making your apartment complex or workplace tobacco-free.

Veterans’ Services


Veterans Services are available at DOH-Sarasota to assist veterans and their families with filing claims for benefits.

WIC Nutrition



WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) is a federal nutrition program for pregnant women, women with infant children, breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age five who meet certain eligibility requirements (including income level).


Eligible program participants receive nutrition counseling and breastfeeding support and checks which can be used to buy qualified food.
